Malawi prison welcomes fake doctor Gododa: Jailed 7 years
Rasford Gogoda the bogus doctor who was arrested at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe has been jailed for seven years.
Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha slapped Gogoda with a seven-year jail term on two charges of impersonating medical professional and theft.
He was also caught with a laptop and some medical equipment that he had hid in his bag.
State Prosecutor Superintendent Damiano Kaputa told the court that in August 2014, Gogoda was sentenced to 300 hours of common services with similar offence.
“He is a convict who was sentenced to 320 hours community service after he was found with drugs, thereby endangering lives of people,” said the state prosecutor.
Gogoda, 26 who hails from Simon Village, Traditional Authority Simon in Neno district was arrested on Tuesday February 3, 2015 at KCH.
In his mitigation Gogoda asked the court to be lenient with him since he looks after his wife and a sick child.
Senior Resident Magistrate Chiotcha then sentenced Gogoda to six (6) years on the first count for personating a public officer contrary to section 99(b) of the penal code and one (1) year on the second count for theft.
