Daniel Mulomo drags MCP to court over polls
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) former regional chair Daniel Mulomo has dragged his party to court for holding regional elections which ousted him, saying they were “illegal”.
National Executive Committee under the chairmanship of Maxwell Thyolera on August 8 this year, conducted regional polls for the centre where the delegates voted out Mulomo and replaced him with his deputy who is also Dedza North parliamentarian, Patrick Chilondola.
During the polls Chilondola polled 193 votes against his second, Dyson Makiyolobasi Kamphambe who amassed 153 while Mulomo did not get any vote.
Mulomo confirmed that his lawyers have indeed filed court affidavits asking total nullification of the results.
“What happened was against the constitution of Malawi Congress Party, let me repeat here that the polls were unconstitutional,” said Mulomo.
But speaking at his Dedza north constituency where Chilondola and his counterpart Patrick Themu of Dedza South presided over consecration of Reverend Denis Phiri, at Chitundu CCAP church on Sunday, the new regional chairman said his focus is to strengthen the party in preparation for 2019.
“Yes I am aware of the court case. Its indeed true that some people want the poll results nullified but I can’t say much since the issue is already with courts,” said Chilondola.
Chilondola said MCP is strengthening in readiness of 2019 national elections.

Why did he participate in the illegal pools? If he won , would he have sued. The challenge with the old guys is they always think of their posts as zamuyaya.

How was he ambushed when the party announced about the polls through a press conference 1 month b4 the polls.What is unconstitutional about the polls when the MCP constitution stipulates that the tenure of office bearers is 3 years and yet Mlomo held this position for 7 years.The Dude is just confused that he is out of mpando wonona (posters chipani ndi ma shadow).He is finished!

A Mulomo opempha boma kuti limange tarven pa Msundwe ku parliamënt instead of development. Can drunken community contribute to development of this country? Mlomo is another useless mediocre politician requiring deleting his name in Malawis politics

Kamlomo should not complain , that is how he ambushed prospective candidates who wanted to stand for the party , who were popular on the ground but not with him, they were given 24 hours notice , for primaries date ! Which would be held, deep in his candidate’s village ,presided over by someone who would deliver the result as prescribed by Kamlomo.

In all fairness anamulakwira Mlomo as he is the only regional chair that produced so many MPs but hey its democracy and I doubt if he will succeed as the other guy won with a landslide
Mr. Mlomo was humiliated at that election event; it was just a farce.
And he’s right to seek redress, through legal channels. MCP should now demonstrate, without reservations, leanings towards democratic tendency. That is to say, Chakwera should start putting a different stump on the so-called new MCP. The Rev. is failing so far!
