Casinos to watch gamblers on money laundering – Malawi Gaming Board
The Malawi Gaming Board has told casinos to comply with the law by watching gamblers who use K1 million in gambling.
Uchizi Chinula, compliance and prevention manager of the board said all gamblers using K1 million and above should be registered with the board to avoid money laundering.
Chinula said this Wednesday in Blantyre during a workshop for casino operators to sensitize them on fraud and anti money laundering law.
“Gambling has come here to stay, this is why the government has regulated the gambling industry,” she said.
She said there were fears that some mafias might hijack gambling for fraud and money laundering hence the need for the operators to register those who use huge amounts of money in the game.
“The game itself is good and fair but there might e some people with ill intentions,” she said.
Chinula said there are also laws that protect people from being fleeced by the operators through the manipulation of the machines.
Apart from gambling, the Malawi Gaming Board also regulates lottery and other competitions to make sure that winners are given their prize money.

Gambling is mostly for mafias. Who can risk their hard earned K1 million for gambling unless its stolen money? So how shall they be monitored?
I went to a Casino at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel and watched some simple guy losing about MK 15 million then bet his 2011 Toyota Fortuner and lost.Zinandidabwitsa kuti munthu osadziwika bwino ngati ameneyu,wazitenga kuti ndalama.Sikuti anthu onse andalama ndimawadziwa,koma ameneyu yekha anandikayikitsa!
Where do people get money in Malawi to gamble with? It is the old story of the haves and the have-nots. Most people in Malawi will not have a clue what a casino is, never mind have the money to gamble in one.

. . . Tell Peter Kumpalume (minister of health) to stop gambling with poor people’s lives and make available drugs in the hospital.
. . . Tell Jappi Mhango (minister of information) to stop gambling with our intelligence and work out on the never-existing-yet-never-ending inconsistencies in the information bill n have it brought forth before parliament.
. . . Tell the parliamentarians to stop gambling with common people’s high expectations and stop being stupid: jeering, cheering, name-calling, protesting; and make meaningful debate for good of Malawi.
