Atupele Muluzi Slams 2020 Vote: “You Chose Lies — Now You’re Paying the Price”

United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi has launched a blistering attack on the current government, accusing it of betraying Malawians with empty promises and failed policies.

Addressing a charged rally at Chikuluma Trading Centre in Machinga, Muluzi said life in Malawi has deteriorated badly since the UDF left power in 2004 — and even more sharply since the 2020 elections.

“People are suffering today because of the vote you cast in 2020. You believed their lies. They promised you three meals a day — are you eating three meals now? They promised fertiliser at K4,995 and one million jobs — have you got those jobs?” Muluzi asked, drawing loud murmurs of agreement from the crowd.

Muluzi vowed that a UDF government would restore the Starter Pack programme to give farmers free seeds and fertiliser, rebuild the economy through agriculture and business, and put money back in people’s pockets.

“This country doesn’t need more speeches — it needs solutions. And the UDF has done it before. We can do it again,” he declared, framing the September 16 polls as a choice between “more suffering” or a return to stability and prosperity.
