Former Surestream FC technical director Peter Mponda has announced that the team’s new name will be Wizards FC.

After parting ways with sponsors Suretream Petroleum, Mponda was asked to change the club’s identity before its next fixture next week.

The short-fused former Flames skipper said he has picked the name Wizards FC as a tribute to his former Canadian club, Ottawa Wizards.

He also said the team will change its base from Surestream Stadium in Chilomoni Township.

Nyasa Times understands that the team may relocate to Complex at College of Medicine.

Surestream will now concentrate on the academy which is its core business.

Mponda’s club has been given permission to still use the Surestream kits, but will have to remove the name Surestream and its logo.

Wizards FC, said Mponda, is talking to potential partners and sponsors.

“I will come out once everything is finalised,” he said.

Mponda will also inherit all the players that are above 17 and even those that are below, but were registered by the club with Sulom.

    Wizard does not only mean Mfiti or Mthakati, We say Mary is a maths wizard does this mean Mary is a Mthakati, we say your father is a scrabble Wizard does this mean that he is a mfiti. Check dictionaries on line. It means an expert in that field. So Mpondas club is or will be full of experts or players with skills in football. Please do let your comments be influence by cultural tones because everyday you experience ufiti kwanu.

  8. Congrats Mponda it’s a good start you have lived soccer so it’s not like you’re venturing into unknown world. Only the name of your team Peter, it doesn’t make me comfortable I think you will reconsider BUT that’s my personal opinion which I’m open to criticism.

    2. Chilomoni Young Soccers
    3.Blantyre Young Wizards not just say Wizards( Mfwiti).
    4.Blantyre Young Bullets
    5. Chilomoni United
    6.Peter Mponda Young Soccers ( just like Jomo Kosmos F C )

    According to Malawi naming Acts Article 20: Section B part ii that name is offensive and Malawi Registration Department will not allow it. Why calling talented youths by that name MFWITI or ATHAKATI. After all wizardhood has been outlawed by Thindwa. Thindwa says no body should be called wizards or Mfwiti/mthakati. This is lack of consultation by Peter. Did you even consulted the players themselves to say something according to the situation in which you Peter & players are. Man be flexible.     Dont just copy anything form the white man’s land. We differ in culture. Do you Chenise do eat dogs, snakes and snails.     When you team was promoted. I came here and I advised you to consider taking veterans in soccer plus your young blood will mean something. But you refused.   47. Just because you played at some amateur club called Toronto wizards for few weeks, you decide to call the team Wizards, be original.
