If we don’t have ridiculous import restrictions, tariffs and duties, how will many of our so-called ‘leaders’ make money with corrupt deals to import or smuggle maize, cement, vehicles; anything and everything. If the goals of SADC and COMESA were actually realistically implemented, it would be a big boost to trade in our region. Local companies may struggle to compete with imports temporarily, but cheaper imports will empower our consumers, generating more cash for he economy.
