Chakwera Delivers Hospital to Nthalire — And a Clear Message to the North

President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera today turned Nthalire into a political and developmental hotspot, inaugurating the brand-new Nthalire Community Hospital in Chitipa and using the moment to reinforce his northern campaign push.

Flanked by Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo, Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu, and Press Trust Chairperson Sosten Gwengwe, Chakwera cut the ribbon on the state-of-the-art facility — funded by Press Trust — declaring it proof of his administration’s commitment to deliver tangible projects even in Malawi’s most remote corners.

“This is not just a building; it’s a promise fulfilled,” Chakwera told cheering residents, drawing applause from a crowd eager for improved healthcare access.

The President’s whistle-stop in Nthalire was just the opening act in a day of high-energy campaigning across the north, with stops lined up at Chitipa Boma and Misuku Hills before capping the day at Karonga Boma.

Political analysts say the move is more than ceremonial — it’s strategic. With elections weeks away, delivering a critical hospital to a rural stronghold sends a clear message: Chakwera wants the North to see him not just as a visitor, but as a builder.
