Heavy Police Raid on Zamba’s Home Yields Nothing as Lawyer Cries Harassment
Police on Tuesday searched a house linked to former Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), Colleen Zamba, as part of investigations into suspected money laundering.

According to her lawyer, George Kadzipatike, at least 25 officers from the Fiscal Police and Area 30 took part in the operation at a residence in Area 14, Lilongwe, where they were reportedly searching for foreign currency.
A search warrant dated March 31, 2026, issued by the Mkukula First Grade Magistrate Court in Lilongwe and obtained by Superintendent Henry Moyo, indicates that Zamba is suspected of money laundering.
The warrant authorises police to search House Number 168 in Area 14, a property registered under Mr. Babani Mandiza, on suspicion that it may be used to keep proceeds of money laundering. It further empowers officers to seize and examine any materials deemed relevant to the investigation.
However, Kadzipatike has criticised the operation, describing it as excessive and lacking sufficient evidence.
“About 25 officers, together with police dogs, stormed the house and searched for over six hours. They searched everywhere but found nothing incriminating,” he said.
He warned that acting on unverified claims risks exposing the State to legal liability.
“I would urge the police to always have concrete evidence before they rush to obtain such warrants. Otherwise, Malawians will end up paying damages for negligent conduct,” Kadzipatike added.
National Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo had not commented on the matter by press time.
The search marks a significant development in ongoing investigations involving the former senior government official, with authorities yet to publicly disclose further details on the case.
