Malawi police arrest man for scorching step son for wrongs of mum

Malawi’s eastern district  of Balaka in the news again as Police are keeping in custody a 32-year-old man for allegedly scorching a 5-year-old step son with hot water for the wrongs of her mother.Scorched Child

Balaka police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Juseph Sauka says the suspect Twaliki Assamu was arrested on New Year’s Day following a complaint from his wife Margret John.

“The complainant Margret John, said the suspect left his home on Christmas day for a drinking spree and upon arrival home at around 7 pm, he found her preparing nsima a development that did not please the suspect since he was hungry and took the pot which contained boiled water and splashed over the victim who was playing nearby,” says Sauka.

Sauka says the suspected escaped after the incident and had been in hiding until last Thursday when he was arrested by relatives of the complainant.

“Motive behind his action is not known as the suspect is saying that he did this due to the influence of alcohol,” says Sauka.

Meanwhile the victim is admitted to Balaka District Hospital where he is receiving treatment for burns as examined by the hospital officials.

Police say the suspect, Assamu, comes from Hoba village, Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka district but was residing at Mpezeni village where the incident happened.

  3. If you didnt want that step son you would just have told your wife unlike the permanent damage that you have caused on him. Lucky you managed to marry his mother but he might even fail to find a wife in future.

  5. He must be castrated straight away and learn a bitter lesson to deter the would be offenders.
