PAC is one hell of a useless body just as is the current govt. They were peddling Public Sector Reforms and one of the recommendations was for the change in the way the recruitment of senior public officials is done. The Job of ACB Director was one of the contentious issues. The President must not appoint but PAC or Public Service should advertise and conduct interviews and the names recommended to the President who must appoint one of the recommended candidates. The appointment of Alex Maulana as MACRA Board Chair is not surprising. It is only DPP sympathizers or members who have been appointed to chair MACRA and MBC. Maulana is a DPP die- hard. So people should not expect any change at MACRA. He will just continue the mess started by the outgoing chair. No good news here. It’s bad news to Malawians.

I am beginning to wonder what kind of questions Belekanyama and team ask the appointed personnel. Are they serious questions or the committee simply rubber-stamps the appointees? Muluzi’s case is rotting, and we cannot see good progress on Chaponda’s case. Both cases and more are handled by ACB and yet PAC confirms the same failure. Why are religious leaders dominating chairmanship of parastatals? Is it one way of buying them the way they did with Rev. Bvumbwe who used to be very vocals but the moment he became Chairman of MERA he put his tail between his two legs .
