A very well crafted piece of writing. It reminds me of the ‘Literary Criticism’ during my first years of literature classes at the University of Malawi. The symbolism found in the blood that was shed on independence day is really a replica of the struggle against the whirlwind of poverty that has swept most Malawians.

“Those that died are from the proximate Ntandire slum dwellers, who represents Malawi’s continued poverty. They were going there because the celebration were free on a holiday—the only opportunity for them to be close to progress”

That’s true!
