Alumni to donate more desks to Mzimba Secondary School

The Mzimba Secondary School Alumni Association (MSSAA) is undertaking the second visit to the school to donate more desks on 15th June 2013.

The group which comprises of those in the Diaspora as well, will make the donation during this year’s Form Four graduation ceremony this June.

Speaking during an interview at the Crossroads Hotel in the capital city, Lilongwe, spokesperson M’theto Lungu said MSSAA pledged over K1 million to the secondary school two years ago, and the visit will provide the former students and opportunity to present the desks.

“Over thirty double-deck desks have so far been ordered and are ready for submission at the school. We also delivered ten desks during the first visit to the school at the inception of this association. We have also had some ex-students in the Diaspora honour with monetary recognitions high scoring students especially girls time and again. There are also other learning and teaching equipments that have been pledged including computer sets, books and sports regalia,” he explained.

In 2010 the group was created with a view of supporting the secondary school with learning and teaching equipment and other facilities, upgrading of infrastructure, among many objective.

“During visits the alumni engage current students with career and inspirational talks, we share food with them at a fee, challenge them to sports and games, and also inspect the dormitory and learning structures. This time around the peak of the visit will be sharing the graduation ceremony with current students,” he said.

There are MSSAA alumni chapters in the three regions of the country and alumni are advised to contact their chapter committees in terms of logistics, pledges and donations to the school.
