Canadian envoy praises Malawi on reforms, takes leave of Pres. Banda

Canadian High Commissioner to Malawi Alain Latulippe on Friday took leave of President Joyce Banda at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre after three year tour of duty.

Latulippe who was based in Maputo , Mozambique, told reporters after his audience with President Banda that he is leaving a happy man.

“The last three years our bilateral relations have improved and we have seen more Malawians going to Canada and more Canadians have also made Malawi their home,” said Latulippe.

The outgoing High Commissioner praised President Joyce Banda for the reforms her government has put in place saying they help the very poor.

“The Canadian Government spoke against the undemocratic tendencies the late President Mutharika government did, we are therefore happy that Malawi is going towards the right direction under President Dr Joyce Banda” said the High Commissioner.

It is not immediately known where Latulippe will be posted to but his successor will arrive in September.
