Chief Lundu: Illovo not helping

The two made the attack at Nchalo in Chikwawa at a developmental rally President Arthur Peter Mutharika held on Friday 8th April, 2016.

In his remarks, Paramount Chief Lundu told Mutharika that Illovo has been doing nothing to help the people of Chikwawa and develop the district despite making million of Kwacha’s.

Without openly justifying his condemnations, Lundu asked Mutharika to invite him, councillors and other chiefs to State House for them to tell him their grievences directly in details.

He also warned that him and his subject cannot be removed from their land raising speculations that the company wants to take over the land belonging to communities.

Taking his turn, Gaffar Issa conquered with Lundu that the company has litellary done nothing to develop Chikwawa.

He therefore urged Illovo to emulate an example from other companies like Alliance One in Lilongwe who have build schools and engage in various other developmental projects.

The [parliamentarian gave an example of shortage of safe water to people of his constituency which needs urgent attention while the company waters its sugarcane using hygiene and safe water.

It is yet to be known when Mutharika will invite Lundu and his fellow chiefs to state house for them to expand their concerns.

Chief Lundu and the MP have great points and we can’t dismiss them cavalier!!
Illovo as a corporate citizen has more responsibility than just being an employer. They must wake up to this fact before citizens harden their stance and we will see Zimbabwe land grab or worse in near future.
These representatives of the people are just blowing the whistle on what locals are temperaments are and they know that they can’t manage that by ignoring it. The next MP will certainly campaign in this fact and you better wake up

Is it really Illovo’s responsibility to build schools, water pipes, or whatsoever? Stupid people tell your dumb Mutharika to build these for you.

Sheer nonsense! Why should developing Chikwawa be Illovo’s responsibility and not that of Government. Illovo has clinics and schools there that support the communities! Your government has done nothing.
