DPP to observe death anniversary of Bingu wa Mutharika

Malawi ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will from Sunday April 5 to April 7 be celebrating the life and achievements of the party’s founder and former head of state late Bingu wa Mutharika.

Bingu wa Mutharika

Bingu wa Mutharika

DPP ‘s director of youth for the central region Rajab Malimba has called upon youths in the country to pray for the soul of Bingu wa Mutharikato continue resting in eternal peace.

Malimba said there will be a prayer service at the DPP Central Region Offices.

“We are calling upon all youths wherever they are to spare time and pray for the soul of the departed leader Bingu wa Mutharika,” said Malimba.

DPP spokesman Francis Kasaila said observed that there were a lot of things late Mutharika achieved, both as an ordinary citizen as well as Malawi’s ruler, that require a great honour.

Among late Mutharika’s major political achievements were attainment of state presidency in 2004 under the banner of the then ruling party, United Democratic Front (UDF), and the founding of the DPP which went on to rule the country between February 2005 and April 2012.

Late Mutharika, who died on April 5, 2012 after succumbing to a cardiac arrest at the New State House, now Kamuzu Palace, in Lilongwe, ruled Malawi from May 2004.

The events surrounding his death and the succession  stunned Malawians and the world.

Those of us who have studied medicine know that death can only be certified by medics and the proper death was 7Th not 5th because medics certified. if you take a patient to the hospital he is still a patient until the medics say so. that is why they say dead on arrival yet the ones who brought him think they brought a dead person.

  43. Alfred Munduwabo says:

He died on the 05/04/2012 all what DPP did was wanting not to announce about death of the most triblistic headless chicken , Peter and his diehards tried to hide to the whole world about the brother’s death until on the 07/04/2012 when Malawians and the whole world to confirm the death of the idiot Bingu .

He went to South Africa with a fictious name of Daniel Phiri and he brought back in a very expensive coffin as Late President Bingu Wamunthilika . How stupid their plan was .
To day we are seeing a brother changing his name by removing WA and he is known as Munthalika. Don’t trust these people they even change 8 to look like $ .

  44. C Banda says:

By picking that range of dates, 05-Apr to 07-Apr, DPP are reminding us of the unforgivable deceit which they practised between those days three years ago.

  53. Honestly i admired his leadership style coz it was something close to Kamuzu (developmrnt orientent approach) However his life very unique; Born Webster Thom, educated and worked internationally and ruled Malwi as Bingu Wamthalika died three days as Daniel Phiri . What a life? Cerebrating his life is quiet in order indeed.

Remembering Bingu from 5-7 april? Olo j. chilembwe, kamuzu etc, there is only one date of death. Is it bcoz u still dont want to accept the truth that he died on 5th april right here in LL and you flew a corpse to RSA for ur own selfish reasons? Akubanja, tatiunikireni pamenepa. For how long will u deny the real date. MHSRIP.

  66. George says:

DPP guys are stupid and their heads are not ticking. In 2012 they said Bingu died on the 7th not the 5th of April and here they are today talking of 5th to 7th. Thugs

  67. ujeni says:

Another waste of state resources, fuel, vehicles, allowances, time on a useless function. Is this what governing mean, is this part of development agenda, is this part of DPP manifesto? One year gone, all we see is state resources wasted on useless ceremonies. My advise to DPP government is that you have four years left before you go to jail.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

  72. John says:

“We are calling upon all youths wherever they are to spare time and pray for the soul of the departed leader Bingu wa Mutharika,”
LIKE REALLY? You want people to pray for you when you are dead, live an exemplary life, not such arrogant, hateful and tribalistic as the Wa Muntharikas do! I am not losing my prayer on him thank you!!

  73. mzimwale says:

It is appointed for a person to die once and there after judgement. No matter how much you can pray for a dead person you cannot change his destiney. You cannot pray for a person to rest in peace because that only depends on where the person is spending his eternity. if in heaven =peace, if in hell= no peace, no matter how much you pray.

    1. Christian life says:

So God’s love is for ever. Dead in fresh but life is eternal. You don’t believe life after death then why live a Chritian life? So God demonstrated that to Lazaro. Again when he died on the cross he brought to life the dead. May be you don’t need more examples be blessed. God loves you.

  74. Nyani wa ku Mwananyani says:

Current DPP leaders should know that Bingu is revered, and he still has a broad based fandom, even after his death. He is likely one reason DPP won the last election. His legacy in standing up to neo-colonialists, and for economic autonomy should be commended by patriotic Malawians, no less.
Bingu’s leadership and political skills cannot be inherited. But the current government should be able to segue from his record of primarily looking out for the underdog. But NO! They do not seem to want to continue with the spirit of his administrations. Or may be they do not have a clue about the winning strategy regarding one of the most contentious issues in Malawi. Case in point: the ill-conceived idea by APM to start charging poor Malawians a fee for seeking medical help in public health facilities. Bingu must be turning in his grave. He cannot be at peace, when his brother is messing up the party he founded.
Where are people going to find the money to pay the medical fees? What with the ordinary person, in the village, making a subsistence living when even middle level employees in government are living hand to mouth, paycheck to paycheck?
    Kalanga ine!

  75. Gifted Brain says:

Kamuzu was good but his close friends were much bad hence Malawians did not like his leadership.

Muluzi was a competent leader and good at convincing donors to flow their income into our country. However,he was indecisive in his choices. He could change his choince according to the direction of wind of a particular day hence making his leadership as weakas ever.

Frankly speaking,,I see nobody’s leadership to be compared with that of Bingu from 2004-2009.His strong leadership made opposition to be shaken more and more, and eventually they could go bad just like what curtains do.Due to overpraising,2009 years were sour to him because he and his ministers had to become much selfish which later led to his tragic event.

Mayi Joyce Banda as she used to say ventured into presidency with no preparation hence making her 2days,sorry,2 years to be worse of which we had never experienced before. His policies were just like of a small school where by school’s administration is able to give an exercise book to each leaner due to small number of individual needs.Come to her govnmt, one family one mbosho(nyumba) or one family one cow/goat had to make me enjoy one of my hobbies which is laughing.

    God bless Malawi!!!

  77. Donyisto says:

  78. Kadakwiza says:

Bingu was a great leader, from a mini bus owner to K150 millionaire to K61billionaire. He was a great leader, because he introduced quote system. And he died on 5 April, 2012 and died again on. 6 April, 2012 and died again on. 7 April,2012. Oh, yes, he was great leader who hate hunger, during his era Malawi had enough food. He was a great leader, who hate northerners. Bingu was a great leader, during his era 20 people were killed on 20 July, 2011. He was a great leader, he also expelled the British High Commissioner to Malawi. Bingu was a great leader. He called Malawians chickens. Bingu was a great leader, May His Soul Rest In Peace

  79. Jelbin mk says:

How many anniversaries will the DPP have if we give them another 5 years oh sorry not if we give them but rather if they push their way again for another five years because we didn’t give them the mandate to rule this country but they pushed their way in. The real and sound party to hold anniversaries is MCP because despite Kamuzu being a dictator he had put the country at a very steady growing state to be only ruined by a big thief and dunderhead Muluzi. Kamuzu started his own capital (Lilongwe starting from the foundation level because there were no structures in Lilongwe qualifying it to be a capital city honestly he is the only one to be remembered in Malawi without forgetting Chihana Chakufwa Thom who fought tooth and nail for liberation of every Malawian whether was in diaspora or within the borders of Malawi. Therefore this country is lost instead of celebrating real heroes we are busy celebrating mafias like Bingu whose actions were very far from being a hero. How can a president waste billions of kwachas on a project (Nsanje world port) that was not at any single day benefit citizens of the country??? In other countries this was a criminal offence because wasting public money is a criminal offence itself in nature. As others have put it already that these fools will one celebrate a bees day on the polling day that was about to attack Peter. Our fear is that this celebration will waste public funds because the so called president will be there with cabinet ministers and then we wonder why we are the poorest nation on earth it’s simply because the leader’s thinking capacity is poor and too limited.

    1. Chipapwiche Kajhalwiche says:

This is a very foolish posting. Praising emusipi and chihana when the two idiots fought each other for dominion over povo. One was a dictator and the other a hardcode tribalist. Very contradictory.

  80. Comment what did Bingu do to deserve official memorial or anniversary. oh my God what the hell is happening in this country?

  81. Chimalilo says:

This function should be done in ndata not in the city of lilongwe and it is good idea to cerebrate his achievments you must learn amati akalonzeza zimayamba fast fast why now mutipangisa manyazitu inu but his soul rest in peace

  82. john says:

  83. njolomachipilingu says:

He should indeed be Prayed for and Remembered.

  84. In reality, Bingu is alive because the one who died was Daniel Phiri. Cowardice at its best and impromptu subjective poverty and fractionated minds at the peril of evil acts. God is always in control.
