Former employee drags MBC to court
Former television producer for Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Joseph Chimbuto has dragged the institution to Industrial Relations Court (IRC) for unfair dismissal.
Chimbuto was dismissed on April 29th, 2010 for absconding duty, having not returned to work upon completion of his Masters Degree course in the United Kingdom (UK).
He argues that MBC did not give him opportunity to be heard before the dismissal.
But the institution through its lawyer, Patrick Mpaka counter-argued that Chimbuto left for UK for further studies without approval, and “Could not be traced so as to be heard.”
The court is yet to determine the fate if the case on whether to dismiss Chimbuto’s claims or not after submission of arguments on Friday.
IRC in December last year awarded former MBC Director General, Bright Malopa K62.5 million as compensation for termination of his contract.
