Goma Nyondo in the studios recording Jazz album
Mzuzu-based up-and-coming musician, Goma Nyondo, who came in the limelight through the just ended E-Wallet Talent Show, is in the studio working on a Jazz album, Nyasa Times has established.
Well-known for his mesmerising performances during the competition, the singer and acoustic guitarist, fondly known as Goma, is expected to release the 10-track album titled Mlela Nkhungwa later this year under Elegant Resources by ArianaLoise.
The music stable signed the 26-year-old vocalist in January this year soon after his ‘controversial’ eviction from the E-Wallet. He was one of the hot contenders but was eliminated from the competition for missing one of the eviction shows.
According to his manager Dawa Loga-Lemberger, the deep-voiced singer’s first single will be hitting the airwaves mid this month
“Goma is finishing his new album which is being produced by Lulu at Mathumela Studios,” confirmed the label’s CEO in an interview with Nyasa Times.
Mlela Nkhungwa is a song that is a tribute to a mother and mothers of Malawi and the album has different languages, among them Chichewa, English, Tumbuka and Yao.
“It’s Jazz and very moving and spiritual,” said Loga-Lemberger. “His deep voice is earth moving with the acoustic guitar as his main instrument that he plays in this album.”
Apart from the title track, other songs on the album include Namalenge, Paridise, Warm Heart of Africa, Pang’onopang’ono, We are going home, Everything is going to be alright, Abysalom, Chidongo and Sela.
Commenting on the project, producer Lulu, who is also signed to the same stable as the Mlela Nkhungwa singer, simply said “Goma is one such artist is simply irresistible. I can’t wait to give this project to the people.”
Before he was signed Elegant Resources by ArianaLoise, Goma was the lead vocalist for Mzuzu-based Kula Band and became well-liked in the northern part of Malawi.
Mlela Nkhungwa will be his first official album but the second since he started his music career. Goma previously recorded an album called Namalenge but never released it.
