Guard murdered in foiled robbery

Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody 36-year-old Bikitoni Livimbo nicknamed Jacuda for allegedly stabbing to death a security guard in a foiled robbery attempt at a shop in Kawale 1 in Lilongwe.

Lilongwe Police Station Publicist, Inspector Kingsley Dandaula in an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) Tuesday identified the deceased as Milias Kazembe of Songaye Village, Traditional Authority Mpando in Ntcheu district.

According to Dandaula, Kazembe was on duty on Saturday when the suspected robber attempted to break into the shop who upon realizing that the guard had seen him and that he knew his identity, stabbed him on the stomach.

He said the guard died while receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was admitted.

Meanwhile, police said the suspect who hails from Mpingu Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe is expected to appear before court to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code. -Mana
