JB throws party for Northern Region PP members

President Mrs Joyce Banda hosted members of the Peoples Party to a 2013 New Year’s luncheon at Mzuzu State lodge on Tuesday and called on them to be united, focused and morally disciplined if the party is to be further strengthened in the region.

“The Peoples’ Party’s ideals are based on love, unity and bond as a family, hence I will not tolerate individuals who bring divisions and moral indiscipline in the party,” he said.

President Banda added that as a woman who believes in values and morals, she won’t condone immoral behaviour among its members.

“I do not want party members to engage in promiscuous behaviour by engaging in unlawful affairs within the party because this brings indiscipline, disgrace and tarnish the image of the party,” Banda stressed, adding that party members who are not ready to follow this can leave and do that outside the party.

The Malawi leader also called on PP members who hold high positions to be humble and have the welfare of the people at heart, saying people should be free to join the party without fear of overzealous party leaders.

“There should be no one preventing entry of new members from joining the party but rather allow every person to join it without intimidation and without regard of which party they previously belonged to,” Banda advised.

She then thanked all members of the party who stood by her when she was harassed by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regime.

Earlier, deputy Secretary General of PP, Frank Mwenifumbo said PP is the only political party whose members truly cooperate and love each other as a family.

“Since I joined politics and as former member of several political parties, I have never witnessed the cordial and warm relationship that exists amongst PP members and this shows the party has the welfare of people at heart,” said Mwenefumbo.

On his part, PP Provincial Chairperson for the North, Reverend Brown Soko, told the President the party has garnered strong support in the region because most northerners have hope and trust in President Banda’s administration, especially with the economic recovery plan being championed by the pp Government.

During the luncheon, President Banda donated 174 bicycles to 33 constituencies in all the districts in Northern Region, to be used by party leaders. The president also distributed maize and assorted gifts for the party leaders who patronised the luncheon.
