Khumbo welcomes 265 members to PP in Mzimba from opposition

About 265 opposition party members on Monday announced their allegiance to the ruling People’s Party (PP) at Luwerezi Community Day Secondary School ground in Mzimba.

The members have defected from Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Democratic People’s Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF).

The Vice President Khumbo Kachali in his welcoming remarks urged supporters of PP to work with new members, saying for PP to continue growing stronger, new and old members need to be united.

“I ask you [PP leaders] to accept new comers.  Let me thank those that have just joined the governing party. Go and tell others who are still in opposition to join us,” Kachali said.

Presenting the new members to Kachali who is also PP’s Vice President, Provincial Chairperson (North) Rev. Brown Soko said the defection is a Christmas gift to President Joyce Banda, Kachali and entire party.

He, however, warned the defectors against spying for the parties they have come from.

“I ask you to join the party wholeheartedly as we will guard against spying,” Rev. Soko said.
