The elections will be held in the Central Region district of Salima where new office bearers will have a four-year tenure of office.

Incumbent president Godfrey Phiri is assured of a second consecutive term of office having no challenger on his position while former General Secretary Haxon Chapasa will seek a return as he compete against Emmanuel Mlonya on the position of Vice president.

Outgoing Vice-President Sentiment Banda will surprisingly contest for the position of Vice General.

The incumbent General Secretary Frank Chitembeya has tight angle to negotiate to overcome challenger Blackstone Malamula.

Malamula is the current Malawi Schools Sports Association chairman.

However the elections have faced challenges in the run up the Annual General Meeting with some concerned individuals accusing the incumbent committees of abusing their powers by indicating that members of sub committees will have voting rights contrary to the Constitution.

The concerned clubs took the matter to Malawi National Council of Sports which was yet to address their concern as the elections day approach.

One of the concerned members said they would push for their concerns to be addressed before elections.

“There are serious concerns which would be brought before the delegates to ensure that the elections are free and fair,” said the source.
