Malawi diplomat, Minister feud over corruption allegations: Bowler calls Chaponda ‘biggest Judas’ of President Mutharika

Minister of Agriculture , Water and Irrigation, George Chaponda is furious with Malawi Ambassador to Brazil, Brian Bowler for his disparaging remarks against him over corruption allegations, saying the diplomat was courting real trouble from the “political bulldozer.”

Bowler : Chaponda is the biggest Judas surrounding Mutharika

Bowler : Chaponda is the biggest Judas surrounding Mutharika

Chaponda: Nonsense

Chaponda: Corruption allegations

Chaponda is the second powerful man in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) after President Peter Mutharika, and also leader of government in parliament, has been implicated in the maize deal in Brazil and that the Mafia way of the purchase is tainted in Cashgate style.

Bowler in an interview with Nyasa Times said he did not know any deal but expressed reservations  on the way Chaponda is handling the maize purchase in Brazil on tax funds and that he has no respect for him whatsoever.

Ambassador Bowler further commented that he read that Judases have surrounded President Mutharika.

“The biggest Judas, in my opinion, is Chaponda and I don’t expect him to like me,” Bowler said.  “The greatest fear is fear itself,” he added.

Chaponda, has had previous run ins with Ambassador Bowler in New York, when Bowler reported serious corruption involving peacekeeping funds to him and Chaponda failed to report this matter to the Anti Corruption Bureau.

Ambassador Bowler went on to report the corruption to the President and the ACB.

But as is the case with those in the corridors of power, there was inaction from the graft-busting body.

Ambassador Bowler urged all civil servants to serve President Mutharika and the people of Malawi faithfull, saying people should emulate the President’s zero-tolerance stand on corruption for the country to move forward.

But Chaponda who wants to succeed Mutharika for presidency is warning Bowler or thats on his way to suffocate his ambitions to be the next Head of State that he will not tolerate nonsense.

Chaponda is warning Bowler that he is “courting real trouble” from him as he touts himself to be the political bulldozer.

The minister brags that he knows how to deal with his “enemies”.

However, the dossier of corruption allegations being complied on the minister is getting too comprehensive.

In parliament, he was also named as one of the seven minister fingered in the grand corruption report.

Nyasa Times is also investigating how month for soldiers was looted.

both Bowle and Chaponda are corrupted and they are fighting for one thing. To be loved by APM pretend they are loyal to DDP and Muntharikas. In reality they are dangerous. They can dump him anytime if he is thrown out of post. In fact they don’t like him. They did with Bingu but not APM. He is stupid to believe them. But what I don’t understand why APM give Chaponda and Bowle high positions? Chaponda sit on positions where there is money. Now the donors are giving money to scripture and irrigation. So Chaponda moved there by APM. May be he is APM money collector. President don’t take or steal money by themselves. They have assistance who can direct the department where money is to transfer suçh amount to that account abroad or in the country. That’s why some people are not fired. If Chaponda is one of Judas why not fired? Chaponda go to APM and tell him lies, especially about Chilima. He don’t like Chilima and afraid that if something happen APM automatically Chilima takes over. That scares Chaponda. He wants to be the one to be the successor of APM/DDP. Question is are Malawians in favour of Chaponda?

Isn’t it funny!…the same Bowler who stall votes for DPP to win the rigged elections?..You and Mr Chaponda there is no difference and stop trying to be clever coz you ain’t clever.

  3. Kumbukani says:

IT IS AN OPEN SECRET THAT DPP IS FULL OF CORRUPTION
The truth of the matter is that corruption is getting worse and worse. The government does not care how much Malawians are suffering or will continue to suffer. They are busy “harvesting” where they did not sow! It started with Bingu who mercilessly looted billions when Malawians were starving. His brother now is blocking investigations on Bingu’s wealth. Can we expect donor partners to release their money in this kind of situation?

Those in the DPP fold involved in corruption are being protected. It is now trendy for corrupt minds to flock to DPP because they know they will be shielded. We had bi-elections recently in Bembeke Ward in Dedza among others. The seat in Bembeke got vacant because the previous councillor was convicted on charges of tampering with ESCOM meters on a number of houses (his residence, his bar, his mother’s house and another). He was cooking and doing all sorts of work with electricity free of charge! He was caught and eventually convicted. The guy, Davie Lingalawe is brute, savage and name it! He is a standard 7 drop out but he has a J.C. certificate! He has been involved in serious malpractices including drug peddling and on this some years back he was arrested in Mozambique with his landlover vehicle full of marijuana (chamba). He managed to escape afterwards leaving the vehicle there and lost both the chamba and vehicle! Now people may be wondering why I am stating all these. Previously this guy was MCP but after conviction, he decided to join DPP so that he can be protected from the other cases of hospital medicine theft, fake J.C. etc. The DPP gladly accepted this guy to an extent that one female minister when welcoming him in the party during the Bembeke Ward campaign rally said DPP was happy to welcome Mr. Lingalawe to “help build DPP in Dedza”. She went on to say that people in Dedza were only jealous for reporting Lingalawe’s theft of ESCOM power “because this was a minor issue as people are stealing millions and not electricity”. She went further to advise Dedza residents to “love each other by not just reporting anything.” Really? A cabinet minister saying this during a rally? Can we expect such a government to fight corruption? Since that day Davie Lingalawe has been in the limelight. He has been a VIP at vice president’s campaign rallies in Bembeke, He was among the people who welcomed APM during his campaign rally in Dedza – shaking hands with the president! Now such people who welcome and shake hands with the president are not just taken haphazardly; they are scrutinized and cleared first! That tells you that the government found this criminal worthy the salt to rub shoulders with the president. In other words, corruption is not an issue with DPP. It is almost certain that as long as DPP is in power and Davie Lingalawe is in DPP, the issue of fake JC and theft of medicine will not see the light of the day and he is now walking shoulder high because he is aware of his protection! Can such a government claim to be fighting corruption? A government which can decide to use a convict to be their central man in its campaign trail? Thanks to the people of Bembeke who showed APM, Chilima, Kaliati, other ministers and the rest of DPP that they do not condone corruption. Shame on you guys!!! I decided to comment on events of Bembeke bi-elections after voting because I did not want it to appear like a political campaign comment. It is a genuine concern over the so called ruling clique! So Chaponda can really brag about being a bulldozer; he knows he will not be investigated by anyone. This government is filthy corrupt!!!!

  4. Maunits says:

Guys is it true that all is well in this DPP Govt. Not even one singled out in corruption malpractice. The president is too corrupt I agree with Chakwera when he says the president meaning Peter is busy with corruption malpractices and completely blind to deal with his cronies and DPP. Ndiye nkumati we will seek reelection which country. You will lose like Hillary Clinton. lets TB Joshua prophesies now

I like what people are writting. Malawi could have been a better nation if it was not for Baliki, s mistake to bring this family Muntharika into our lives. Some Malawian still see APM as the best leader they never had. I know even foreign organizations in Malawi knows that Peter is very corrupted. A man who has no love for Malawi or Malawians. He came to Malawi to have money for his children and live the life he is living now and he could not live in America. He is living of Trump but Trump does not steal money from poor citizens. Could APM have hired a new plane if he was in America? His thieve brother bought a presidential plane. Not even European leader has a private presidential plane. A poor nation with Aid the only country in Africa and very poor had one. If he will continue 2019. I don’t know if Malawian will survive. I don’t live in Malawi but have relatives. APM will not live in Malawi if he is not a president. He has stolen enough money to live good life in USA. He still have green card. One don’t loose it as long he/sh go there once a year and be there one month or 6 months. That is why he go there’s every year at stay longer. Don’t forget he stayed there 40years and has pension from there.

  5. Ngalamayi says:

When will ministers, MPs learn that their job is to fight the country’s enemies, develop the economy? If they gave that as much of their time and energy as they do making sure their own pockets are full of taxpayers’ money, Malawi would be well on the way to recovery and a bright future. 2019…choose your vote carefully!

  6. Chalo says:

Bowler is just wasting his time if he thinks APM will act on these corruption allegations. The so called cuts from the deals is the traditional way these people finance the party using government procurement routes. It is the same case with Escom, MERA, NOCMA, etc. We voted thieves into government despite being warned and so we shouldnt be seen to be ignorant of what we expected from these people.

    1. wakwiya says:

Trump some years back he said ” if I should stand for president I will stand as Republican because they are stupid and ignorance” That was the same ignorance Malawians who voted for DDP 2014. There were no secret what PM will when he wins or stolen the votes. It was hatred of Malawians for a woman or MCP which gave APM/ DDP win. Now you are crying WHY? It is worse than when Bingu first year of is post. As soon as soon as APM came things changed. Don’t u wonder why APM can not fire those people? Chaponda is a dangerous person. APM is afraid. The man is evil and he can do anything to protect his evil. I am sure APM knows. It is the same mistake JB did by taking evils from DDP. Its good they are reviewing each other. Whether they are fighting after leadership post or not. They are telling us something and we should listen. Malawi vote different in 2019. Chapond thinks he can force himself to be president. He should learn from Tembo. APM don’t know these people. How can he know them? He was not in Màlawi. He is old and he does not know how Màlawi and think.

  7. Jelbin mk says:

This is the result of our very dull and sleepy president we have. How can onerepport a crime especially that of corruption to the highest office in the land and no action taken????????? The president is very incapacitated to running the country. I do not regard him as a president but as a farm captain not a president coz he is very far from beeing one, he is a total dunderhead.

  8. Telon says:

Chaponda, Chaponda, Chaponda on every corruption related issues. What is special about him that he can bulldoze the whole country with impunity? The man is stinking corruption. Why can’t the president act? Is the president afraid of this baboon looking creature? Surely CSOs should challenge the president to take action against this figurative man. Malawi has destroyed powerful men before him. Let him ask BJ, JZU, Muwalo etc. Chapondas end is within sight.

  9. The Analyst says:

    O………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………O
The statement that, “Bowler urged all civil servants to . . . emulate the president’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption . . .” – (9th Paragraph); just shows that Bowler is just as useless.
. . . Which president is Bowler talking about? APM? Ha! Laughable but sad!
. . . You see, it is statements like these; that make people feel like they are doing a good job on corruption and yet the opposite is true.
. . . Nanga inu, besides making empty promises and displaying stray and meaningless anger, what has APM done to earn him the zero-corruption-tolerance accolade?
. . . Is it not APM who was first to speak in defence of people suspected to hav been named in the K265bn (or whatever) theft?
. . . Is it not APM who promised to probe JBs jet sale, cashgate etc? What has he done so far, if not next to nothing?
. . . And who doesn’t know that, “If you are neutral in a situation of injustice, then you have chosen the side of the oppressor”? – Desmond Tutu
    ………………………………………
Truth is, “Its only when we accept that we are lost, can we find our true path.” – Atlantis; and truth be told, Malawi long lost the battle against corruption on the shores of APM’s inaction (against perpetrators)
. . . As such, he needs to be told (in the face) that he is the reason why corruption is now wholesale in Malawi. He needs to know (by being told), it is his inaction that Britain has rebuffed his plea for budgetary support.
. . . In short, Bowler’s eulogy on APM’s stance on corruption, is just as misplaced as nosensical as APM’s tough-talk-but-no-action on corruption; and just gets to show why this country cant develop: “We have useless people for leaders who are unfortunately also surrounded by dishonest people like Bowler.
    . . . And it hurts!

    1. Emeneka says:

Hahaha what have you, as a citizen, done in fighting corruption apart from your flowery poems. More talk no action. You are not even bold enough to reveal who you are. Typical of fools masquareding as experts. Malawi has always been a corrupt country since independence and it will never change. As for Bowler i cant comment because everybody knows that he is an idiot. If the so called Fourth Estate has irrefutable evidence against Chaponda let it be published so the we may see how corrupt this old useless man is instead of insinuations.

If you have anything that resembles a brain, then you are yet to activate it.
. . . Otherwise, only a complete fool would say, “Malawi will never change because it has always been a corrupt country since independence.”
. . . Since am sure that your grandmother did not raise a fool in your mother to raise a fool in you hence these idle thoughts of yours, you may wish to find some use for your brain-like thing and stop being idle.

kkkkkkkkkk it is my first time seeing The Analyst responding is this way. Emeneka that is your food for thought.

Just come to think of it, Grace Chunga . . .
. . . Could not Emeneka ably put forth his/her otherwise good arguement [where he/she is advocating for more action from us the citizens than just talking] without such sharp, derogatory hence tasteless words as “TYPICAL OF FOOLS MASQUERADING AS EXPERTS.”? Isn’t this statement (by Emeneka) full of untold levels of violence? How do we meet violence in Africa, if not with violence?
. . . Yes, it is very unusual for some people (like myself) to put forth such tasteless posts (as this response to Emeneka) but truth be told, there is a Devil in each one of us that awakens, once its scratched.
. . . Its therefore high time people realised that its possible to shout at someone without raising up your voice, and corollary to criticise someone or their post, without being offensive or primitive.
. . . Otherwise, “In Africa, you meet violence, with violence.”
