Malawi has seen a rash of violent crimes, including a wave of fatal shootings of late, which have stirred public concern and piled pressure on the authorities to tackle the problem.

Reports say the minister’s  vehicle  – Toyota Prado TX, white in colour and registration number MG 330M.- was stolen while it was with his driver, Jafali Malemia, who was looking for accommodation at the trading centre.

The robbers abducted him and dumped him in Neno, leaving him  unharmed.

According to official  news agency Mana,  Nankhuma was not in the vehicle at the time of robbery.

Secretary for Information, Tourism and Culture, Chimwemwe Banda has urged the public to report to the Malawi Police any sightings of the vehicle or any information leading to recovery of the vehicle.

Apparently stolen vehicles end up being sold in Mozambique.
Government should discuss with their counterparts in Mozambique.

That’s the problem of having only plebeians” vehicles searched at road blocks while VIPs are saluted and waved through. These robbers studied the system and discovered that vehicles like the one they stole are not subjected to any checks at roadblocks, that’s why they had the courage to go ahead and do what they did. I have no doubt that these guys were saluted by some “respectable policemen” as they drove through, and that they replied with a wave and sarcastic smiles. Yes , robbers received VIP treatment which many law-abiding citizens can only dream of. Let this be an… Read more »

Did this car fly from Lunzu to Neno? If not! Then it passed thru Zalewa Road Block where the driver could have signaled the Police to impound it or merely getting out whilst it was approaching / passing thru the barrier.
This was an arranged robbery by the driver / minister and police and the thieves. Dont fool us.
