Malawi People-Metro shop ease devalution with lower prices: Consumers flock

After its re-branding in all cities and towns of the country, Peoples Trading Centre and its food stores attracted queus of consumers on Thursday  in Lilongwe and Blantyre bringing the supermarket’s lower prices to the people.

The drastic discount will end on 9 December.

Many people flocked to the stores and lined up for lower prices on basic food and household items, complementing to its saying “Malawi’s Favourite Food Store”.

Consumers were lured by the  lower prices of items  such as a loaf of bread has been slashed from K250 to K95 with a free 250ml of Suncrest Milk only whereas Illovo Sugar White is going at K200 from around K350.

Farmello Eggs are at K895 per tray, Kukoma cooking oil 5 Litres is at K3395, 2 Litres K1395, 1 Litre is at K695.

Those going for liquor could get a bigger range whereby Malawi Gin 750ml at K1195, Hunters 300ml is at K29995, Brandy 750ml is at K2495 and many more price reductions.

In Blantyre the shop was temporarily closed to control the number of customers entering the shop.

The People-Metro supermarket caters for all customers’ daily, weekly and monthly food and household requirement through a wide selection of products sourced both locally and internationally.

The discount which many consumers said has eased off the pangs of devaluation, is a token of appreciation to the shop’s customers in the country, according to People-Metro officials.

Formerly known as McConnell and Company, Metro, under People’s Trading Company is a subsidiary of Press Group of Companies.
