Marketing executive Wilkins Mijiga has made a move to cement his football administration experience with a move linking him to a role at Wizards FC who were relegated from Malawi’s top league.
Mijiga, who is Chief marketing Officer at Malawi’s biggest bank by assets, National Bank of Malawi is touted to take up an administration role at Wizards.
Wizzards owner and technical director former Malawi national football team captain Peter Mponda hinted on the possibility of Mijiga taking up a role at the club.
“I can’t say anything about that but Mr Mijiga is a gentleman and respected person who has been helping in the development of football in Malawi,” Mponda said.
“If what people are saying is true its a welcome development and we will be happy to work with him.”
But the outspoken and down-to-earth former Black Leopards and Santos of South Africa top league professional hinted that the two parties had been in talks over the issue.
“We will let you know if there’s that. You will hear it from us.”
Mponda led Wizards after the team formerly known as Surestream broke away from Surestream Academy which has just lost sponsorship from British oil company Surestream Petroleum.
He led the team in Malawi flagship after a protracted dispute with Surestream Academy over ownership of the team.
If Mijiga will move to Wizzards it could offer him the platform to gain more experience in football administration which was one of his shortfalls which led him to lost to incumbent Football Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu during the elections held in December last year.
It is a statement of intent that he would contest in the next elections scheduled for 2019 as Nyamilandu who is serving a fourth term is likely going to step down.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
