A family member told state radio MBC that Mangulama collapsed Monday at his house and they tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

The hospital official said: “Despite the efforts of everyone nothing could be done to save him.”

Burial arrangements are yet to be known.

Confirming the death Patron of the grouping senior chief Ngolongoliwa was lost of words.

“I am lost of words over his demise; he was a figure who helped us with the formation of our grouping; we feel empty,” said Ngolongoliwa.

Many people who worked with Mangulama described him as as “wonderful” person.

Meanwhile, the Mulhako Board of Trustees is inviting all Trustees, Regional and District Mulhako Chairpersons and all Members of Parliament who are also members of Mulhako Wa Alhomwe cultural grouping to meet on Tuesday, the 11th of August, 2015 at Mulli Brothers Holdings Limited in Chigumula, Blantyre. The meeting will start at 12 noon.

Chilima, currently in the UK, said the commission and the country has lost a valuable asset.

” I am greatly saddened by his death. Commissioner Mangulama was one of the outstanding colleagues in the commission and was dedicated in seeing a reformed public service. And his contribution to the Mhlakho wa Ahlomwe will remain for ever,” said Chilima through his spokeperson Pilirani Phiri.

He retired as one of the respectable career civil servant who worked in various positions inckuding being Princiapl Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.

He was a very hardworking PS of his time. He was a no nonsense person. He called a spade, a spade! If you got it wrong he would call you and chastise you in love so that next time you did right. I enjoyed working with him at ministry of information before he went to Germany as Deputy Ambassador. He fought fraud at Information; he hated lacklustre and mediocrity. However, he was a happy smiler and would chat with everybody. May his soul rest in eternal peace!

  24. Khuth'upa o'Machemba says:

Inside or outside Mulhakho, Mr. Mangulama was a good man, and respected. He did more than his part in promoting Lhomwe traditions; and championing the ones worth preserving.
He left the cultural grouping in a better position than when he started to lead it.
An unassuming man. What a loss most importantly to his family, and extended relatives; and also to all a’Mulhakho.
He was indeed a joyous man, or “otthapa” as they say in elhomwe.
