Paul Banda receives icon award as Alleluya band clocks 35

Veteran musician Paul Banda received an icon award on Saturday at the  Alleluya Band’s celebrations marking 35 years of existence and he urged government to support the youth in promoting musical talents as one way of curbing crime in the country.

“A lot of youth have talents but failing to come out because of lack of support, therefore, I ask the government to lead in promoting the youth to unveil their talents as this will help in reducing theft and crime,” said Banda who is one of the band founders.

The renowned musician said  he was delighted  to perform alongside the old band members. He performed his old songs such as Malilime and was given an award of long time recognition.

The celebrations started in the morning with a meeting by the band members where they discussed issues concerning the band, later in the afternoon old band members like Patrick Kalima, Millera Nkhoma were given a chance to perform as well.

Guest artist Ben Mankhamba who also performed alongside his dancers thanked Alleluya band for its long existence

“Many people have learnt through this band as it is a band with a good example”, said Mankhamba.

Malawi;s leading musician Lucious Banda who’s also an old member of the band and an aspiring member of parliament for Balaka North missed the event  as he was reported to had attended  the wedding of UDF president Atupele Muluzi.

Another top singer Maskal  turned late from the wedding to perform.

Expressing his gratitude for sharing stage with the country’s longest band, the Udalile star thanked the funs and Allelluya band for inviting him.

“It is a privilege to share the same stage with the likes of Paul Banda and Cos Chiwalo because these are the mentors who gave me courage and hopes of becoming like them one day”, he said.

Father Mario pacifici the founding trustee of Andiamo Youth Cooperative Trust missed the function due to his health condition but wished the band many more successful years through their journey of spreading the word of God.
