Police arrest Agora manager for swindling cash

Police in Malawi’s eastern district of Balaka are keeping in custody assistant shop Manager for Agora Shop for allegedly misappropriating cash amounting to K620, 950.00.

Confirming the arrest the district’s police publicist sub-inspector Joseph Sauka told Nyasa Times that the suspect, Patrick Chinseu (32) who was working as an Assistant Shop Manager for Agora Shop Ulongwe deport and was arrested after being in hiding for over a week.

For the second suspect Lovemore Simkonda who was a Shop Manager is still at large.

“The syndicate came to light after the auditors visited the shop for auditing. And after the suspects noted that they would have a shortage, they left the shop as if they were going out for lunch and never returned.

“Upon completion of the auditing, the auditors discovered that K620, 950.00 was not accounted for and the suspects were nowhere to be seen; and the matter was reported to Police,” he says.

Patrick Chinseu comes from Mwembere village, Traditional Authority Chinseu in Zomba district and is expected to appear before court soon where he will answer charges of theft by servant which is contrary to section 328 of the Penal code.
