PP’s Mzomera tongue lashes MCP, DPP and UDF

Peoples Party (PP) Provisional Chairperson for the north Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira on Wednesday used a presidential rally to attack three main opposition parties, saying they are a menace to the country.

His first attack was on opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Vice President and running mate Richard Msowoya, branding him a turncoat , saying his move to MCP was motivated by greed.

Reverend Ngwira, who involuntarily switched to preaching mode, during a function at Bolero in Rumphi District where President Joyce Banda was distributing maize to household affected by hunger, said it is inconceivable for northerners to forget the atrocities and cruelties MCP did to northerners during its rule.

He said the quota system of education, which President Banda promised to phase out when in power, is the brain child of MCP.

“We have a tough campaign similar to a war therefore northerners need to know what some of these parties did. First and foremost MCP was started by northerners but usurped by other people who used it as a weapon against them.

“In the 1964 cabinet crisis the likes of Rose Chibambo and Kanyama Chiume suffered because they were northerners. In 1973 at Marymount Secondary School, MCP officials [of course led by Gwanda Chakuamba who is now in PP]  beat our Chiefs in full view of everybody. In 1989 all  teachers from the north were repatriated to their home district,” he said.

Ngwira claimed MCP will re-introduce party cards for the unborn children in the guise of promoting safe motherhood.

“With all this should we welcome MCP? And it is sad that our Chiefs allow MCP in the villages. Can we really forget that easily what MCP did?”  Ngwira queried.

He also claimed that MCP assaulted pro-democracy hero late Chakufwa Chihana inflicting lifelong head injuries which later caused his demise.

But MCP spokeswoman Jessies Kabwila said PP is yet to apologise for the atrocities it is committing due to the infamous cashgate scandal.

“A total of 17 people in our public hospital are dying because there are no medicines or equipment. And since the unearthing of cashgate, how many [people have died?” she queried.

“There is no money in MCP. It’s PP that has money through the cashgate scandal,” Kabwila said.

She  said MCP has at many forums  apologised for its chequered past which it cannot avoid.

“We are a new MCP. But we are also calling on the First Gentleman (retired Chief Justice Richard Banda) to apologise to the nation because whatever happened during MCP rule, the First Gentleman was the Attorney General and he closed his eyes. As a top lawyer he should have acted,” Kabwila said.

On UDF, Ngwira said the party was attempting a third term through former president Bakili Muluzi’s son Atupel who is the party’s presidential candidate in May 20 elections..

“They have nothing to offer. Their Young Democrats terrorised people, Chiefs and even Police Officers. They lied on maize distribution by bringing the same trucks to every meeting yet the maize was not offloaded,” he said.

On DPP, where Ngwira  who served as deputy Minister and regional Governor in that regime, he claimed the party operated well before President Joyce Banda and Vice President Khumbo Kachali were dismissed.

“They messed our economy, killed Malawians on July 20th 2011 for demonstrating. As Malawians on 20th of every month we remember those that the DPP government killed on that day. Coincidentally, we will vote on May 20 and there is no way a vote can go to DPP,” he said.
