Rumphi man in cooler for killing own father

Police in Rumphi have arrested Edgar Ngwira, a fugitive murder suspect who had fled to an unknown location after allegedly killing his own biological father.

Rumphi police publicist Victor Khamisi said:“Ngwira had gone to a witchdoctor who told him that his child had been bewitched by his father Tomas Ngwira (now deceased) and his step brother Vyalema Ngwira.”

Khamisi added: “He then started insulting his father and later took an axe and killed him by hacking him on the back and several times in the head.”

The deceased was later taken to Rumphi District hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A postmortem conducted at the district hospital showed that Tomas Ngwira had died due to severe loss of blood, shock and pain according to Khamisi.

Ngwira, 50, hails from Kapota village in the area of  T/A Mtwalo in Mzimba, and has been charged with the offence of murder which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code and attracts death sentence if found guilty.
