Speaker of Malawi Parliament Richard Msowoya has embracced exercises as part of his daily lifestyle, accepting the challenge invited by Ulaya Classics, the body building and fitness body.
The Speaker has already posted videos on his Facebook Timeline of himself doing exercises and he has since extended the Ulaya Classics challenge to MPs, Lucius Chiccio Banda and Juliana Mdamvetsa Lunguzi.
“Today, I decided to take up the Ulaya Classic daily fitness challenge initiated by Charles Ulaya [who] has taken the initiative to challenge fellow Malawians to lead a healthy and disciplined life,” writes Msowoya on Facebook.
“I feel honoured that he nominated me for this daily fitness challenge. I am happy to accept the challenge and, as you can see from the videos, I take it very seriously.
“Before deciding on which challenge I should take, I tried several exercises this morning. After jogging for a few kilometres, I did some sit ups on a ball before attempting some push ups which, admittedly, gave me a few problems.
“That, in fact, has made it easy for me to choose. I just love surmounting big challenges and because of that experience, I will pick the push ups for the challenge. Believe you me, in no time my performance will be far much better!
“Indeed, I pledge to wake up every morning and exercise. I do so because this challenge is in line with what we must all be doing. Exercises help us keep fit both mentally and physically apart from giving us the opportunity to relax.
“As Members of Parliament we lead a very busy and stressful life and keeping fit is not optional. It is therefore with pleasure that I pass on the challenge to nominate Hon. Lucius Chiccio Banda, MP and Hon Juliana Mdamvetsa Lunguzi, MP for the daily challenge. Rest assured that my choice is random.”
Ulaya, one of the founders and pioneers of Weightlifting & Bodybuilding Association, hailed the Speaker for his bold move to come public and inspire others to undertake daily exercises.
“I am grateful to Hon Akajuwe Roy Kachale Banda for also accepting the challenge. I am still waiting for my friend Hon Charles Mchacha and Hon Madalitso Kazombo .
Others that have been nominated are MP Noel Masangwi, Malawi National Council of Sports board chairman James Chuma, among others.
Ulaya Classics, in conjunction with Sportslinks, will on September 17 host a body building contest whose winner will receive a whopping MK1 million.
The pre-judging exercise was already conducted Zomba, Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
