The Trumpeters set to release album singles

New gospel group, The Trumpeters, is set to make its first mark on the local music scene with its debut album titled ‘Imva Lipenga’.

The newly formed Blantyre group has shortlisted five tracks for promotion as they prepare to release the 12-track album on a date they are yet to announce.

‘Imva Lipenga’ has seven songs in Chichewa, one in Tumbuka and two in Tonga. Among the tracks which will be coming out next week, there is ‘Tamkondwa’, ‘Takwera ya Yesu’, ‘Walani’, ‘Loti’ and the title track.

“These tracks are ready, what remains is the packaging so that we start the promotion in the coming week,” Akeem Chaula, one of the group members told Nyasa Times.

In an earlier interview, The Trumpeters indicated will be coming with different style of gospel music that will change the industry, saying the group would be making a major break.

Khathwa Aligiza of Alimoso Studios, who has produced the ‘Imva Lipenga’ album, said Malawians should expect a different touch of music on the market.

Aligiza, who has worked with Joseph Tembo and produced for the likes of Grace Chinga and Masintha Women Choir described The Trumpeters’ debut album as the best of its kind.

“Their music is different from what other gospel artists are doing. They have their own compositions and rhythms from the first to the last song, while most of these singers just copy from foreign artists.

“Even the message in the songs shows the group has a deep understanding of the Bible,” said Aligiza.

The Trumpeters comprise of Mauya Msuku, Godfrey Phiri, Chikondi Mmangeni, Chaula, Sandress Honde and Falida Mmangeni, coming from different churches in the city of Blantyre.
