Tigress, Escom set up finals clash: Rainbow Paints Tournament

Escom Sisters became the first team to reach the finals of the inaugural 2012 Rainbow Paints Net ball Top Six Tournament on Saturday at Blantyre Youth Centre after beating Woget Sisters 51-13 baskets.

They will contest the final against rivals Bingu Tigresses who eased out MTL Queens 47-35 in a hardly fought encounter.

During the first game, Escom Sisters had much an easier task as they kept Woget on the tight rope in all the quarters.

Escom Sisters coach Griffin ‘Zagalo’ Saenda said he was happy his charges are in the finals, saying he was confident they will grab the cup.

“We are in the finals and make no mistake, the cup is ours,” he said.

In the second game, MTL Queens suffered at the hands of Tigresses were too good for them in all the four quarters, as they led 10-7, 21-17, 36-25 before nailing the last nail on MTL Queens coffin with 47 baskets to 35.

Tigresses showed determination to win the game from the word go especially from their slippery shooter Sindi ‘Sniper’ Simutowe who was unstoppable.

The other players, who were on top of their game were Beatrice Kadango, Lauren ‘China’ Ngwira while on MTL Queens side, young and upcoming centre Thandiwe Galeta alongside vast experienced shooter Emma Mzagada tried to rescue the situation but could not match the Kanjedza girls.

Tigresses Coach Charles Mhango described their victory as a stepping stone to clinch the trophy.
