Well wisher bails out Malawi’s second league
Southern Football Association League, second tier league in Malawi will at long last present prizes to teams and individuals for the 2015 season.
This follows a well wisher, who has offered to meet the the cost of monetary prizes for the awards.
The league’s Vice-general secretary Kingsley Simbeye said the prize presentation will be held at Football Association of Malawi Fifa funded Chiwembe Technical and Development Centre of March 4.
But Simbeye did not disclose the identity of the well wisher after US based sports manufacturing gear Nsejjere chickened out after a highly publicised sponsorship.
“Prize ceremony ceremony will be held on 4 March , Friday at Chiwembe Technical Development Centre 2 pm,” Simbeye said.
“We are also going to hold meeting with clubs intending to join the 2016.”
The awards to be presented are for the top three teams for the Premier Division and Division One, individual awards for players and journalists.
FAM once indicated that it would lend the cashstrapped league K4 million to enable it honour the awards.
The disgruntled teams held a meeting to drumming up the support to have the committee led by Raphael Humba to step down for failing to deliver promises in his campaign blueprint.
Among others he promised sponsorship for the league and all the 13 district leagues in the Southern Region of Malawi
Meanwhile FAM has warned that it would seek legal action for Nsejjere and Countrywide Car Hire who have also failed to honour the K8 million cup sponsorship.
Nsejjere league sponsorship was at K10 million.
