Fiery and outspoken Rumphi east MP Kamlepo Kalua has said he will not shut up and will not adhere to the 24 hour ultimatum to release names of the seven cabinet ministers named in the K236 billion cashgate report.
Kalua was reacting to President Peter Mutharika’s demands issued on Monday.
“I will not shut up, he cannot threaten me, he cannot shake me up,” the firebrand MP said.
He insisted Mutharika is lying that he does not have the names of the seven cabinet ministers.
“Unless he tells us that he is failed to run Malawi, unless he is clueless on how to run government affairs, unless he is not in control then he doesn’t have the names,” said Kalua.
Kalua said he has the names after the auditor general Stevenson Kumphasa gave to the Public Accounts Committee when they summoned him.
“But I am not the one to tell the president the names because I am not the auditor general, I am not the director of the ACB,” said Kamlepo.
He said Kumphasa told the Public Accounts Committee members that he had surrendered 13 files on the K236 billion cashgate report, out of which seven contain the names of the cabinet ministers.
Kalua said failure by the President to prosecute the seven cabinet ministers is a clear indication that he was shielding them and he has failed to run the government as its leader.
The MP also told Mutharika to stop threatening him.
“I have had 23 attempts on my life since the dawn of multiparty democracy, 15 by Bingu, the president’s own brother. I have survived assassination on my life even after this President took office,” said Kamlepo.
The auditor general Kumphasa said he was advised by the attorney general not to make public the names.
Anti Corruption Bureau director Lucas Kondowe got the names from the auditor general but he is refusing to prosecute the said ministers heightening speculation that he is under orders from Mutharika himself.
Speculation has it that the seven ministers include Finance minister Goodall Gondwe, Labour minister Henry Mussa, Agriculture minister George Chaponda and Energy minister Bright Msaka.
Kamlepo wondered why the President said he does not have the names when at a rally in Zomba he mentioned that former president Joyce Banda is named in the report.
