The baby was found being eaten by the dogs in an area known as Zambia.

Police could not trace whether the baby was male or female saying by the time people tried to rescue the body of the baby, dogs had already eaten the bottom part of it.

Blantyre Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Andrew Mayawo said the mother of the baby has not yet been traced and police are still investigating on the issue.

“The mother of the baby is not known and we are tracing if we can find her. In the meantime police are encouraging anyone who knows the mother of the baby to report to the police.

“We believe that members of the community will cooperate with the police until the police find the mother of the child,” said Mayawo.

An eye witness, Steven Lanken said people found dogs eating the dead body of the newly born baby on Sunday at around 5 O’clock in the morning.

“People were shocked when they saw dogs eating the baby and later started throwing stones at the dogs,” he said.

Health authorities at Chilomoni Health Centre also failed to identify whether the baby was female or male.

Police statistics in Blantyre shows that cases of child concealment are increasing and the police have since warned women who dump their children to stop the malpractice or risk being prosecuted if found.
