The search for this year’s Miss Valentine beauty pageant has reached a climax stage with about 25 young girls registering for the event slated for Sunday afternoon, February 12 at Chez Ntemba International Club in Blantyre.
According to the event’s national coordinator Justice Mponda, the girls will undergo a screening process at Malawi Sun Hotel before choosing the top 12 finalists.
“The response has been overwhelming. Our aim is to unearth and mould raw talent at an early stage. We want to instill courage and confidence in them so that they can parade majestically in front of a large audience at any stage regardless of the environment,” he said.
Mponda said apart from the music and the fashion show during the event, some of the country’s well known motivational speakers would also seize the opportunity, to address young people about their rightful roles in this time of social and economic challenges, rather than indulging themselves in counter productive behaviours.
“We have chosen Chez Ntemba so as to reach out to many young people especially those fun-addicts with these motivational speeches, so that they should be responsible in this world of HIV/Aids so as to become productive citizens in future,” he said.
Meanwhile, top beauty queens and urban musicians in the country have united to make the event colourful.
The beauty queens are former Miss Malawi Faith Chibale, the reigning Malawi News Model Gladys Kumbatira, Miss Warm Heart of Africa Aisha Chiwaula, Miss Blantyre Tamara Malika Chitanda and freelance model Nicra Watts Chikopa while the urban musicians team comprises of Nthumwi Piksy, Diktator and Blak Jak.
Other performances will be Breaking Silence, Shine Girls and C double.
The club’s resident DJ Trigger, will be on turn table; mixing and fixing the vibes.
According Mponda , Miss Valentine is a beauty pageant for young ladies from across the country, which is aimed at grooming young girls to become professional models as evidenced by the most of the current models who are the products of this pageantry.
Some of those who have registered are Seva Siame, Atupele Chilunga, Caroline Msongole, Trintace Chikopa, Tadala Ndisale, Thoko Kamanga, Elisha Tembo, Chimwemwe Chopani, Enifa Kamange, Violet Kachamba, Ida Motsotsa and Dickiredi Mpini.
