3 title contenders play same day on Sunday: Malawi TNM Super League
All three TNM Super League title contenders, leaders Kamuzu Barracks, second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets and third-placed Blue Eagles all play their games simultaneously on Sunday.
And the interesting match will certainly be that of the leaders Kamuzu Barracks, who travel to the third placed Blue Eagles home ground Nankhaka while Nyasa Bullets host 12th-placed Dwangwa United at Kamuzu Stadium.
This really is a hot race and certainly an interesting photo finish is expected.
A draw between Kamuzu Barracks and Blue Eagles — and a win for Bullets — will certainly catapult the People’s team to the top in their bid to defend the title for the third consecutive season.
No team at this stage can afford to drop any point — Kamuzu Barracks, at 52 points from 27 games, lead with just one point ahead of Bullets, who tie with the Eagles at 51 points but the People’s Team have better goal difference of 23 while the Cops of Nankhaka have 17.
The maximum points if each of the three win their remaining three games are 61 for Kamuzu Barracks and 60 for Bullets and the Eagles.
Fourth-placed Silver Strikers should not be ruled out. Though their maximum points would be 59, they are close behind, at 59 points — just two away from the leaders.
The Bankers host relegation-threatened Karonga United at Silver Stadium also on Sunday. Karonga have 24 points and their maximum points are 33 while Wizards have 27 points and their maximum points are also 33.
But the Wizards, who made things difficult for themselves by losing 0-2 to fellow strugglers, 12th-placed Dwangwa United and drawing 0-0 against 5th-placed Mafco, have two games left while Karonga have three remaining.
Wizards host 7th-placed Moyale at Chiwembe Stadium also on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Fam FISD Challenge Cup champions Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, who are contented with clinching two cup titles after the Carlsberg Cup, date Moyale at Balaka Stadium.
Wanderers are at position six with 44 points and their maximum points are 53. They will only challenge for a better 5th or 4th positions if 5th-placed Mafco and 4th-positioned Silver mess up their three remaining games.
Mafco host troubled relegation bound Civo United at Chitowe Stadium. Civo are 15th with 21 points.
