4 arrested for stealing bags of subsidized fertilizers

Malawi Police in Machinga district have arrested five people for allegedly stealing 41 bags of subsidized fertilizers at Mmanga ADMARC depot valued at five hundred thousand kwacha.

Machinga police spokesperson Amos Martin Tione says the five are Ellia Banda, Rodric Sulumba, Aaron Ganeti, Damiano Machika, and Mavuto Fredson.

Tione says Eliya Banda was working as a clerk while Sulumba and Ganet were watchmen at the depot.

He says the three connived to sell the fertilizers to Machika and Fredison who are vendors at Liwonde Township.

Meanwhile, the police have only recovered two bags of Urea Fertilizers.

The suspects are still under police custody and are expected to appear before court soon.
