8 nabbed over Taifa Market fire in Mzuzu

Malawi Police have arrested eight suspects connected to the cause of fire  at Taifa Market in Mzuzu.

Taifa Market found itself in flames and assorted merchandise worth millions of Kwachas have been destroyed by fierce fire which started around 10 PM on Thursday.

According to police station officer-in charge John Nyondo, the fire emanated from one shop whose owner was distributing illegal connections of electricity to other shops.

“An explosion was noticed from one of the shop that led the fire move swiftly to other shops said Nyondo.

Police have since arrested  8 people including 2 women who were looting the shops during the fire that engulfed the part of Taifa Market.
