Bullets dominate Malawi TNM Super League awards: Nyasa Times shine in media gongs
TNM in conjunction with Super League of Malawi on Thursday presented awards to deserving teams and individuals, including journalists who provided best coverage for the league in the 2015-16 edition.
A colourful ceremony that took place at Comesa Hall in Blantyre was graced by Minister of Sports Grace Chiume, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu, George Jana from Malawi National Council of Sports and TNM staff.
Champions Big Bullets dominated the awards with its players Chiukepo Msowoya, Fischer Kondowe, James Chilapondwa, Yamikani Fodya being decorated.
Veteran midfielder Kondowe and Chilapondwa got long serving players awards, as Msowoya scooped player of the season award as well as top goal scorer ‘ golden boot’ gong alongside Red Lions hit man Innocent Bokosi while Fodya was named best defender.
Msowoya received K425,000 for both top goal scorer and player of the season while Fodya received K100,000.
Most improved player went to Mighty Be Forward Wanderers pint sized defender Stanely Sanudi, who received K100,000, while John Soko of Blue Eagles was voted the best goalkeeper with his K100,000 cheque.
Best midfielder went to Nelson Kangunje, who got K100,000, while player of the month of December went to Jabulani Linje of Be Forward Wanderers.
Bullets also got best team management while Blue Eagles was voted the best technical panel and the two teams received K100,000 each.
Team Awards
Mafco FC and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers got the most improved teams and went home with K350,000 each , while Fair Play teams went to Civo United, Fisd Wizards and Azam Tigers. The three teams received K250,000.
Most disciplined supporters went to Big Bullets and they received K200,000. They also got an award for leading team first round.
Big Bullets as champions smiled all the way to the bank to cash K15 million, while second placed Mafco FC received K7 million. Blue Eagles went home with K4 million for third place, while Mighty Be Forward Wanderers got K3.5 million for scooping fourth slot.
Other players, who also received long serving players awards were Davie Moya ( Silver Strikers), Rodrick Gonani ( Silver Strikers), Charles Ngosi ( Blue Eagles), Davie Banda ( Kamuzu Barracks), Lameck Thindwa ( Moyale Barracks), Greyson Phiri ( Airborne Rangers), Mapopa Msukwa ( Azam Tigers), John Dzimbiri ( Azam Tigers), Rodrick Douglas ( Epac), Joseph Kachule ( Epac), Jacob Ngwira ( Be Forward Wanderers), Mabvuto Khodzomba ( Silver Strikers) and Gerald Nkungula of Civo United.
Referees
On referees, Duncan Lengani was voted the best and he received K100,000, alongside the following referees who went home with K50,000 each: Bennadetta Kwimbiri, Clemence Kanduku and Ishmael Chizinga.
Media
In the media category, Frank Kandu of MBC was voted the best in electronic, seconded by Mike Bango of Zodiak then Madalitso Phiri of Capital rADIO and Mwakhele Kaliande. Kandu got K200,000 while Bango received K120,000. Phiri and Kaliande received K80,000 each.
In print media it was Peter Kanjere while Garry Chirwa and Mphatso Malidadi shared third slot.
In online media, the best reporter went to Nyasa Times photojournalist and reporter Jeromy Kadewere with Nyasa Times Lilongwe based Alex Mwezalumo coming second.
The best commentator went to Patrick Simango with Williams Gondwa coming second while Bobby Kabango was voted best photojournalist.
Peter Kanjere was voted the best in print followed by Mphatso Malidadi and Mabvuto Kambuwe on third slot.
Best TV presenter went to Peter Fote seconded by Pilirani Kachinziri , while Lusayo Kanyika was the best television cameraman.
The best column went to Joy Ndovie with Garry Chirwa second.
