Blessings Mbengwani, pharmacist, is suspected to have given Thomas Waiyatsa, a driver, a travelling bag full of amoxycilin to sell on the black market.

Thyolo Police Public Relations Officer, Edith Kachotsa said the two are reported to have stolen the drugs from the hospital on February 26.

Kachotsa said the plot was uncovered by a security guard who upon doing regular checks found the drugs concealed in Wayiyatsa’s bag.

“When questioned to explain how he got in possession of such quantities of amoxycilin, Wayiyatsa confessed that they belonged to Mbengwani.

“We therefore have arrested both Mbengwani and Wayiyatsa to appear in court and answer the charge of being found in possession of medical drugs without valid documents contrary to section 47 of the Poison and Medical Board Act,” explained Kachotsa.

Kachotsa said the value of the drugs is yet to be established and could not give further details.

Malamulo Mission Hospital serves a large population of people from surrounding areas of Makwasa and as far as Thekerani and Nsanje.

Mbengwani, 22, comes from Mongola Village in Traditional Authority Kwataine, Ntcheu, while Thomas 42 comes from Mponda Village, Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka district.
