Minister of Local Government Kondwani Nankhumwa has warned people should not take as persecution its decision to prosecute those who swindle money meant for various development projects in councils.
Nankhumwa sad this in Mangochi when he installed traditional leaders Mtonda and Lulanga.
“We are not targeting anyone because of his or her political affiliation or anything. It is pathetic that people can steal development funds and government will not sit back and watch as public money is abused,” he said on Monday.
The warning comes barely weeks after some ward councillors in Mangochi were arrested for allegedly abusing council funds meant for development in the district.
In parliament on Tuesday, Nkhotakota South East MP Everson Makowa Mwale asked the government to probe Teveta which allegedly used K48 million to buy smart phones for its directors when the country is going through economic upheavals.
Minister of Labour Henry Mussa assured the legislator the probe would be made.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
