Muhara having sleepless nights over judgements

Chief Secretary to Government Lloyd Muhara has revealed he is having sleepless nights  to deliver  to judgements to cases he was handling when he was still a judge at the High Court in Lilongwe.

Night owl: Muhara putting up night shifts to write judgements

Recently, Nyasa Times reported that people whose cases he was handling have been complaining, with some visiting the High Court in Lilongwe to find out what is happening to their cases.

President Peter Mutharika appointed Muhara as Deputy Chief Secretary to Government in August last year before he was elevated to the position of Chief Secretary in December the same year to replace George Mkondiwa who was demoted to a diplomatic post in India.

Muhara said  he is having sleepless nights after work time at the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), he has been  putting up extra shift to writing the judgements of the cases he was handling as High Court judge.

“Every night I dedicate some three to four hours to judgement writing and now only very few files are remaining un-touched,” said Muhara reacting to complaints from court users.

According to Muhara, in quotes reported by Daily Times, most  judgement are now being typed, others are being proofread.

“By end of April, all remaining files will be done. For the past months, I have been sleeping an average of five hours partly due to this task,” Muhara said.

Judiciary spokesperson, Mlenga Mvula also said Muhara will soon deliver judgments on the cases.

“As per procedure, a judge who hears a matter to the end is the one who writes the judgement. Maybe he is busy with his current office. We will liaise with him. But we know he will write the judgements,” Mvula said.

Muhara was, before being transferred to the OPC, working in the Civil Division of the High Court in Lilongwe.
