Traditional Authority Mduwa of Mchinji dies

Mchinji district council has announced the death of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mduwa of Mchinji who died on Tuesday evening at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Mchinji District Commissioner Rosemary Nawasha said T/A Mduwa real name Patson Magaleta died after suffering from kidney failure.

“I can confirm that T/A Mduwa died of kidney failure on Tuesday evening. Burial arrangement for the deceased chief will be announced later,” She said.

Born on 9^th September 1959, Magaleta was installed as T/A Mduwa in 2013 taking over from Isaac Lutere who was alleged not to be the rightful heir to the throne.

The Mduwa Chieftaincy has been embroiled in chieftaincy wrangle between the Lutere and Mitala families leading to violence and court cases.

In 2010, the High Court ordered that the Mduwa chieftaincy belonged to the Mitala family and Patson Magaleta who was nephew to former T/A Mduwa Richard Mitala was installed in 2013.

Late Traditional Authority Mduwa is survived by a wife and six children.
