Civil society urges Malawi govt to act on PAC resolutions with speed

Civil society organisations say they are becoming impatient with the government slow pace of implementing Public Affairs Committee (PAC) resolutions ahead of the expiry of deadlines.

Kondowe: Act on PAC resolutions

Activist Benedicto Kondowe said the civil society organisations want to see immediate change in the way the state broadcaster, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) discharges its duties.

MBC, though using tax payer money, works for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and insults opposition leaders including Malawi Congress Party  (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera.

Kondowe said if MBC continue to be biased towards the ruling party, it risks a lawsuit.

Another issue, Kondowe said, is that the Anti-Corruption Bureau should prosecute former Agriculture minister George Chaponda.

He said it was worrying that it was taking long before Chaponda was taken to court in his alleged involvement in the Zambia maize scandal.

Information minister Nicholas Dausi said it was impossible to effect change at MBC within 30 days as per PAC recommendations whilst Justice minister Samuel Tembenu said people should be patient as prosecution of suspects by ACB involves other players like courts.

When will you Kondowe (Benedicto) demand the return of the Government jet by JB if you are a Malawian? When will you ask Brain Banda, who was a beneficiary of JB’s cashgate at Kamuzu palace and Kasakula, who was rejected by MCP during the primary elections in Kasungu, to stop disrespecting APM? Why were you Kondowe, Trapence, Sembereka quiet when Amai was economically plundering this country? By the way Amai athawa chiani? Please Mr Benedicto answer these simple questions.

Govt should work as usual no need to be intimidated by CSOs and PAC. Let them go ahead with their threats. After all they did not vote for DPP. People will speak in 2019.Nanunso a Dausi simumayankha zogwira mtima. Don’t fear them they don’t represent us. We speak through the ballot. They can’t even appreciate that govt is being run without budgetary support. Just build us hospital in Phalombe and construct Phalombe-Chitakale road. No ultimatums to the government

The CSO which believes the that the only proof that they are working comes only after occupying space in the media. Do u have anything else to do?
