Mutharika directs that Kalua return as Umodzi Holdings chief executive

President Peter Mutharika has ordered the immediate reinstatement of Kamlepo Kalua as chief executive of Umodzi Holdings Limited, in a directive that appears to reverse his removal from the post.

CEO Kamlepo Kalua- Kalua return to post with immediate effect

The instruction says Kalua should return to his position without delay and with immediate effect.

No reason has been given for the decision.

The instruction does not describe the circumstances of Kalua’s removal or say whether any conditions were attached to his return.

Umodzi Holdings Limited is a government-owned company, incorporated in 2012 and wholly owned by the Malawi Government.

It manages Umodzi Park in Lilongwe, which includes the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), The President Hotel (also called The President Walmont), 14 presidential villas and Malawi Square.

The Park was built with a $100 million loan from the Chinese government.
