Ben Phiri praises Nkhata Bay chiefs as promotions take effect

Government has elevated traditional authorities Thula and Kabunduli of Nkhata Bay to the rank of Senior Chief, and has installed Isaiah Chigwere Msuku as Traditional Authority Bohgoyo.

Group village head Malanda Kawembo has also been elevated to Sub-Traditional Authority Malanda Kawembo. The changes were made at a ceremony held at Chipopoma ground in the district.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ben Phiri urged the traditional leaders to serve with dedication and discipline, describing them as the bedrock of development.

“Let us ensure that we discharge our duties with a sense of responsibility for development to thrive in the district and country as a whole,” he said.

Nkhata Bay District Chiefs Council chairperson Senior Chief Mkumbira thanked government for the promotions, saying they would help ease the workload facing chiefs in the district.
