Mpamba agent wins K1 million in ‘Katamu Katamu’ TNM promotion

Blantyre based Mpamba agent Lwitiko Mwakasungula has won K1 million in the just ended TNM “Katamu Katamu” promotion aiming to reward Mpamba agents across the country for their important role in promoting mobile money and strengthening financial inclusion in the country.

Mwakwasungula emerged the grand winner during the final draw held at TNM head of office in Blantyre on Tuesday.

Speaking during the final draw, TNM Head of Mobile Money Chikhulupiliro Mphatso said the promotion received an overwhelming response from the Mpamba agents.

“Through the three-month-long promotion TNM has excited and rewarded Mpamba agents in all its operating regions for their support to the company’s mobile money platform. The response that we have gotten is encouraging,” said Mphatso.

Mphatso further said that Katamu Katamu promotion has contributed to the growth of Mpamba and increased customer transactions to over 10 million during the promotion period.

“The promotion also had regional winners in the buildup because as a truly Malawian company with a footprint of agents across all regions, we wanted to have each region register winners” added Mphatso.

He said since the launch of the promotion in March, the company has given out over K5.4 Million cash to 72 agents across its four operating regions in addition to the grand prize of K1 million.

According to Mphatso, the promotion was particular to Mpamba agents as one way of incentivising their role and empowering their businesses citing the Mpamba value sent to their wallets as bonus capital for the their business.

“As for the 1 million kwacha winner, I am sure he can transact more and more without running low as this comes as a seasonal boost to his electronic value” he concluded.

To qualify for the fortnightly prizes, Mpamba agents were required to carry out a minimum of 150 transactions in a week. These transactions included redeeming tokens, facilitating cash in and cash out. Four lucky agents, one from each region every fortnight walked away with K100, 000 and another four K50, 000 each during fortnight draws.
