Chihana wants all Ministers who served Joyce Banda to be arrested over Cashgate
Alliance for Democracy (Aford) president Enock Chihana has told the state to arrest all cabinet ministers who served in the Joyce Banda administration.
Chihana said he was angered with the state for issuing a warrant of arrest for the former president.
‘Government is a collective responsibility so the state should not arrest Dr Banda alone,” he said.
Chihana was minister of Youth and Sports in the two year Peoples Party administration.
Government spokesman Nicholous Dausi has said Chihana should surrender himself to authorities.
“Chihana is making mere political tantrums, let him surrender himself if he means what he says,”Dausi.
Banda is reportedly in the US and will be charged with abuse of office and money laundering charges.
National police spokesman James Kadadzera said fiscal and fraud police have unearthed ”credible evidence which raises reasonable suspicion that the former president committed offences relating to abuse of office and money laundering.
Kadadzera said Banda is ” suspected of abusing her office” in the Cashgate scandal.
Cashgate is the biggest financial scandal in Malawi’s history and helped push Banda out of power in 2014.
That came after she ordered an audit the previous year which discovered that $30 million had been looted by officials in less than six months in 2013.
Dozens of civil servants, business people and politicians have since been implicated in the scam, and some have been jailed.
International donors pulled the plug on aid of around $150 million over the scandal.

So according to Enock Chihana’s philosophy of collective cabinet decisions, Kamuzu should have been arrested with all his cabinet ministers in the Mwanza murder case, Muluzi should have been arrested with his cabinet ministers in the K1.7bn corruption case, Chaponda should have been arrested together with the entire cabinet in the Zambia maize scandal etc? I fail to understand how some so called political leaders think in Nyasaland.

I thought he (Enock Chihana) also served in her Cabinet as Youth and Sports Minister? Ndikulakwitsa kapena? So he should get arrested himself as well, bwanji akangozipereka yekha ku police mkulu ameneyu, asatichedwetse akuoneka akhoza kukhala key suspect wa Cashgate.
Chaponda chimanga is not a president and has never and will never be the president, so stop comparing this thief to any presidents we have had in this country.
